What is Secret Santa?

Secret Santa (also called Kris Kringle, Yankee Swap draw, or Wichteln in Germany) is a gift exchange tradition where each participant is randomly assigned one other person to buy a gift for — in secret. No one knows who has them until the reveal. This generator ensures no one gets themselves, and every assignment is made fairly at random.

How to use the Secret Santa Generator

Type every participant's name — one name per line — in the box above. Press "Draw Secret Santa" and the assignments appear instantly. Use "Copy Results" to paste the list into a message or email, then share each person's assignment privately so the secrecy is maintained.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone be assigned themselves?

No. The algorithm guarantees no self-assignment. It retries the shuffle up to 200 times, and falls back to a simple rotation only if needed — which is mathematically rare with 3+ people.

Are the results saved anywhere?

No. All processing happens in your browser. Names and results are never sent to any server or stored anywhere. Refreshing the page clears everything — use "Copy Results" before you close the tab.

How many people can I add?

Between 3 and 100 participants are supported.

What is the Korean version called?

In Korea the same game is called Manito (마니또). You can try the Korean Manito Generator for a Korean-language version.
